I love the Sierra’s and believe we all must do our part to protect this beautiful area. Like almost any enterpise, there are “Green” or “environmetally freindly” ways of doing things, or “business as usuall” with a disregard for our environment and health. I live in Tahoe to enjoy a healthy lifestyle and I work hard to include include that mindset into my business. Drying time – carpet cleaning in Tahoe and Truckee

One of the most often asked questions I receive is: how long will it take before I can walk on the carpet? The simple answer is - immediately. There is nothing wrong with walking on freshly cleaned, damp carpet. But, when you track soil onto a damp fiber, it sticks to to the fiber, unlike a dry fiber where the soil sits on top of the fiber and is then easily vacuumed off. So if you walk on freshly cleaned and damp carpet just make sure to where clean socks, or we will be happy to provide shoe covers.

How long before the carpet is dry? Usually our carpets dry in 3-4 hours. There are several environmental factors, such as humidty and temperature that will effect drying time, but by taking the time to clean the carpets properly, with extra drying strokes with the wand, our carpets are usually dry to the touch in half a day, or less. Quality Carpet Care is trained and certified in carpet cleaning, upholstery cleaning, water damage restoration, tile and stone care and we follow the guidelines of the IICRC to make sure that we provide our customers with the best service possible.

Steam cleaning versus shampoo

Is there a difference between Hot Water Extraction (steam cleaning) versus shampooing? YES! Shampooing was the original method of carpet cleaning. Similar to shampooing your hair, when shampooing carpet the detergent is agitated into the carpet. It is then left to dry and theoretically vacuumed out. This is where the concept came from that once you clean your carpets, they will get dirty sooner. This is no longer true. With shampooing, it left detergent in the carpet, and detergent is designed to attract dirt. Would you put shampoo in your hair and just leave it there? Of course not. You rinse it out. That is what modern Steam Cleaning does. By adding an extra step of prespraying the detergent into the carpet, and then using a rinsing agent (which is what is in the steam we spay into the carpet) we then rinse out the dirt and the prespray. Your carpets are left virtually residue free and they do no resoil quicker. All too often lower priced cleaners still leave soil attracting residue in the carpet. It takes more time to do it right, but the carpets will stay cleaner much longer when the proper steps are done. At Quality Carpet and Upholstery Care we take the time to do it right! We use envornmentally friendly cleaning agents and most importantly we take the time to thoroughly rinse the carpet to leave it residue free. It’s healthier for you, and your carpets stay cleaner longer.

As the owner of Quality Carpet Care, I have lived in the Tahoe Truckee area since 1981. Living in such a beautiful area has constantly reinforced my love of our environment and my awarness of our impact upon it. I think I was the original “green cleaner”. I was researching products that were safe for me and the environment since I started in this business in 1987, afterall I am exposed to our cleaning agents on a daily basis. I also frequently clean my own carpet, and with a family and pets I certainly would not want to introduce any product that would be in any way harmful. In fact, my research has proved to me that proper, thorough carpet cleaning using the How Water Extraction method removes more soils and allergens from the carpet than any other method, and actually makes the home healthier.
